We ‘sorta’ took the holidays off from blogging but from all of us, we hope you had happy holidays and visions of sweet, locally-grown watermelons danced in your head. Now that my wife has added 80 pounds to my weight with her cooking, it’s time to get started on the fields for spring!
Over the past few months we really haven’t done much on the farm except visit and let the kids run off some of that no-school energy. We took the season off from growing our famous broccoli so we could ponder and pray about what we are going to do with the farm. In November, we had a quiet Thanksgiving with lots of food and, thankfully, no travel. December saw more of the same, just poking around the house at little projects and getting lots of kiddo time. We decided in December that we were not going to go through with the lease on the 13-acre tract in Leon County so that is a little disheartening, but we still have plenty of space at our farm.
In January, the farm truck took a turn for the worse and I spent weeks working on it to get it back in good condition. Now we are just focusing on the coming season and getting ready for that. This is my favorite time of year to work in the fields because it is cool enough to do hours and hours of physical labor and it’s when I get to drive the tractor the most. We are planning to plant lots of watermelons, beans, hemp, and squash. Stay tuned for a February update and find out what’s next in our farming saga. Drama. Whatever. Anyway, Happy Holidays and we look forward to serving you in the Spring!
